--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An exciting night of professional boxing is set for tonight at the Robert Treat Hotel in Newark, New Jersey as Harvey Dock’s HD Promotions is prepared to put on an evenly matched six bout club card. The main event will feature Newark’s own Jerson Ravelo (18-3, 12KO’s), who will swap punches with dangerous Philadelphian Dhafir “No Fear” Smith (20-18-6, 4KOs) in an eight round super middleweight clash. The co-feature of the evening also has that local favor as Yonkers, New York’s undefeated welterweight, Michael Torres (11-0, 6KOs), who will tangle with hard-hitting Kpakpo Allotey (16-5, 14KOs) of Ghana over six rounds of action.
Ravelo looks to bounce back from his recent loss to Andre Ward, but will have a tough time of it as he faces the man called “No Fear”. Throw out the records as Smith (20-18-6, 4KOs) has faced a virtual who’s who of prospects, such as Andre Ward, Mike Paschall and Curtis Stevens. In his last bout, he lost a controversial split decision to Kingsley Ikeke (24-3, 12KOs) and should provide quite a test for Jerson Ravelo.
Torres 11-0, 6KOs of Yonkers, NY looks to make a big splash on the welterweight scene in 2009, but he must first get by the dangerous Kpapko Allotey, who has won fourteen of his sixteen victories by way of knockout.
The under-card is filled with fighters making their first steps into the squared circle as professionals.
Newark, New Jersey’s Rashad Bogar (Pro debut) tangles with Juan Guaman (1-0) of Long Island, New York in a four round welterweight scrap.
Cateret, New Jersey Heavyweight John Lennox (Pro debut), swaps punches over four rounds with Ricardo Cuffee (0-2) of Brooklyn, New York.
Patterson New Jersey’s Eldin Sanchez (Pro debut) bangs away with Blackville, South Carolina’s Robert Brown (Pro debut) in a four round heavyweight clash.
Rounding out the card, is Patterson New Jersey’s Manuel Jimenez (Pro debut), who is set to trade punches with Dover, New Jersey light Omar Brito (Pro debut).
